One of the lesser known flying saucers in Nazi UFO lore is the "Vril" saucer, claimed to be the first of the saucer fleet that has somehow pulled a houdini from the face of the earth.
I decided to do some extrapolation to see what a "supersized" vril would look like, and I came up with something akin to a miniature saucer battleship.

I even included a bridge deck for the model. What I did, really was a combination of Galactica's CIC and the Enterprise's bridge. I was planning to put propaganda posters and even a flag in the bridge, but I would have gotten a pantload of flak for that (hehe, flak...)

Land Raider Mk1_Bile Template WIP

I started working on a project I've been wanting to do for at least 3 years (when I found out the template existed over at the BWC Archive) and that's the Land Raider Mk1.
Now I know a lot of people like the new Land Raider model, but I have a special fondness for this old kit. And I thought it would be great to have one for a small Renegade Space Marine force I am building (Sons of Malice). I only wish I had bought one of the plastic kits back when I started playing 40k in 1995 with the arrival of 2nd edition. They go for exorbitant prices on eBay now.

I've split my time between this model and working on the little details on the Macharius build in the other thread.

The 1st thing of note is that there are no instructions for this model. Though it's fairly easy to determine what all the various items are on the 7 or so pages the pattern takes. And there are some images of the assembled model (presumably by Bile (pronouned Be - Lay) himself).
Also there seems to be a couple of versions of this template. Another one I have actually has some faint grey lines pointing out where various parts were to go... it is marked as v1.03 and it also has guides on the main body for where to place certain parts. This is the version I used. I got these templates in one big package called Paperhammer40k. It's a fairly large collection of 40k templates (mostly gathered from the BWC Archives) with some of Pataroch's models sprinkled in.

I printed the templates onto 110bp Georgia Pacific cardstock that is widely available in the US at stores like Walmart, OfficeDepot, Kmart, etc. I used cereal box card for most of the reinforcement laminates.

The outer track/wheel structure (Page 1 of the templates) must be printed 2x. This is not noted anywhere...but each page makes one complete assembly. Keep in mind that whatever application you are opening the templates in they will probably need re-sized. There is a scale on the newer templates that says print 27cm x 19xcm. That is what I did.

Here are the assemblies mid-build. Each face (outer and inner) are laminated to the cereal card using white PVA glue. I like Aleen's Fast Grab & Quick Dry glue.

Note: I cut strips of Cereal card the same width as the assemblies and bent like a Z or zig zag shape to glued inside the hollow volumes to provide rigidity and strength the sides and prevent warping. This works really well.

The Circles were also laminated to the Cereal card for added thickness. I cut them out with a pair of small scissors. I then glued them on to the fronts and backs of the track/wheel assemblies.

Ugh even more circles...my fingers are actually hurting from cutting these out... I don't show all of this step, but this is Page 2 of the Templates. All of it was laminated to cereal card and sat under a 2 big/heavy books to dry while I worked on the main body.

The main body/hull section and the storage compartment. I precut the storage area that sits atop the tank. And built the internal part as it needs to be glued inside before gluing the hull volume closed.

Note: It is not shown but I laminated the entire center section with cereal box card. I also built a center structure that stretches the width of the entire hull to provide more rigidity through the center to each of the sides.

Also, note that I glued the side parts more towards the front of the hull before rather than leave it at the very end of the pattern where it was "implied" as the location to be glued. I think it helped minimize any alignment and sizing issues common with cutting and scoring thicker card. BTW the center hull folded and aligned perfectly.

Here are some of the front and rear parts to build and attach to the main body.

This appears to be part of the Engine assembly.

Here is a shot of the front grill piece assembled and placed on the hull. As well as the entire track side assemblies in place. I made some addition smaller rivets/bolts to place onto the exposed axels (the small circles that encompass the front back sides of the track/wheel assemblies) using a couple of small hole punches I bought at a craft store. They are hard to see on the white model but should as a nice looking additional layer of detail.

I am working on the tracks and outer side assemblies now... more picks forthcoming...

Hi all,
The time has come where I have to part ways with my layout.

It is 32 x 80 N-Scale layout. It has a pine frame with plywood as the base, topped with insulation foam.

Here is the track plan. It is a loop with two passing sidings and plenty of stub sidings for switching action. Most of the turnouts are manually operated with Caboose industry ground throws. The two turnouts at the top that have the legs connected are part of an electronic interlocking. They are operated by two under the table switch machines controlled by one switch. That prevents you from driving a train through one of the turnouts into the closed points of the other turnout.

It is wired in a block layout so that that trains can be parked on the sidings while running a train on the main loop. You can also run it with a DCC system by turning all the blocks to the on position.

It also comes with buildings and some of construction materials (sectional and flex track, roadbed, ballast)

My blog detailing the construction of the layout along with pictures is at: http://platypus1217.blogspot.com/200...1_archive.html. It has pictures.

This layout is for pickup in Chester County, PA.

If you are interested or want more information please send me an email with your offer. My address is mark (dot) dane (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thanks for looking!

This is the second one, the Ye-8/2.

The original model is avalaible here in the download section as a white model and a color one.

I resized the white model to 1/200, cleaned the canopy, changed the wings and most of the undercarriage. Actually mine is too short! I have to lengthen the legs of the main landing gear before I build the Ye-8/1.

The last pics show the Ye-8/2 with my first test-build and an FT-7 I used as a testbed for the missiles.

Just thought I'd introduce myself:

TechHeadFred.
Australian.
Male.
Mid 30s.
IT Hardware geek and video gamer with an interest in modelling - mostly Warhammer 40K and a bit of pepakura.

One of these days I'm going to start building a MAME cabinet. Like many other projects, I may not finish it but I fully intend to start it!

Edit: I noticed you have a slot car section too.
I'll have to check it out, been into Scalextric for years and finally got some converter tracks to use my classic track pieces with my newer set!

This forum seems to be exploding with Warhammer 40k models and fans alike. I have seen the fantastic models designed and built by the good people here, and yet I have just gotten into the game when I was on vacation. One of the spinoffs I discovered was battlefleet gothic, which is sadly barely produced nowadays. I hope that there are people on this forum who will enjoy my latest project: the Retribution Class Battlecruiser of the Imperial Navy. I have attached here what parts I have designed so far.

P.S.--Maybe someone can also tell me the rules of the game, as I first got in it for the modeling aspect, and my army is begging to be put into battle sign1

Hello my friends!

I show my last SF model, at this time, I'm show the huge Confederation Starfighter F-54 Rapier II "Blade Type".

The Rapier II replaced the aging CF-117 in 2654 and immediately made an impact: Dragon, Bandit, Maverick, Maniac, Prankster... a disproportionate number of the war’s top twenty aces served with Rapier II squadrons. The Blade is the modern version of that famed ship, updated by fire through its service against the Nephilim.

This model is made from a 3D source file from Xbox Video-Game Wing Commander Arena, the last incarnation of franchise, released in 2008.

Besides a simple model, is a great subject with marvelous texture, I made in 1/100 scale, I believe in the next days is avaliabe to download in http://papercommander.solsector.net/

This model represents a dwelling place depicted in the lovely Studio Ghibli anime film "Howl's Moving Castle" (2004).

I started building this model in September 2006 when a friend gave me as birthday gift the 26 printed pages of the free Epson file that was once available at Epson's site. This file is no loger available from Epson, but it still can be found in several other places.

I worked in it only in my free times, and when I felt I could do some advance. There were times when I left months without touching it.

I finished it in September 2009 (exactly three years after I started). But in total, acording to my notebook, it took me 43 hours.

This are some pictures of an early stage of the project (2007). Those were taken with a crappy webcam connected to the PC.

I am kind of newbie in card modelling (in modelling in general), very low budget, so...
I have to made myself some things that "makes life beautiful" (if not better). Cardboard, white glue,
water colours (cheap ones :killer:) and other little things that everyone has it home.
So I have started making a Romanian switcher locomotive,
having already plans from a fellow modelist.
This is called LDM 12 Malaxa, a pretty oldie, but there are a few in service.
Next I have tried some German stuff, thinking to make a rail diorama about DRG. A passenger car, "behelfpersonenwagen MCi-43",
this time a work a little bit harder, because of poor documentation (just a few photos and incomplete sketches on internet).
I am pretty pleased, after all, the car seems to be close to the real one (which had many variations,
painting schemes, passenger places etc, "living" in DRG, DR, DB
and also in Czech Railways... maybe other rail companies had it, too).

(photo:www.osnabruecker-dampflokfreunde.de)

Then I put in on a famous German locomotive, "Hermine" - E69-003

This beauty came to me out of a printer, so it was a little bit easier to built (yet I have to add a few details...and correct a few things.)

And a Panzer III, which I intended to put on a freight car, but I already have a vignette for it, so...
I'm not decided. Some handmade grass (cigarette filter, untied, painted and "sunbathed"), the "classical" wire+white glue+paint)
for the tree, also some parched tea plants for dead leaves around tree... and a little bit of boiled and parched coffee for the soil
around tank's hole.

Sorry for the poor pictures, I don't have anything to take them, except an old mobile phone. Thanks for patience and seeing these.

To start off first, the Whiskey River Railway is a semi fictitious railroad. It is influenced by the miniature railroad my "uncle" has at his amusement park but I decided to model it as a full size railroad set in the 1940's. I have a short "history" of the line that I wrote up many years ago as a assignment for a business class.

History of the Whiskey River Railway Company
1880-1940

In the year of 1880, southern Wisconsin was a rapidly growing area. The area was rich of farmland, lead and gravel mining, logging and other commodities. But despite booming population, rapidly growing volume of crops, vast amounts of lead mined and increasing size of cities, territorial transportation was almost literally still in the Dark Ages. Shipping or traveling was by lake or river routes, over mud roads not much better than forest trails, on a few plank roads or military roads—and all of these were generally unusable during parts of the year. So this is why one man developed a rail line to respond to the needs of these communities, and his name was Lee W. Merrick. Though not a true rail tycoon, Merrick cared about his community in that he built a wildlife reserve, two schools, a library and donated rail passes to school children who needed them to get to school. That's why in late 1880, Merrick started the Whiskey River Railway Company.

Probably the most interesting start of a railroad would be this one, in the fact that the railway became official on August 19, 1880 but didn't recieve its first locomotive until that next March. Baldwin Locomotive Works made their first locomotive, a Consolidation-type locomotive #1. Some may ask why such a large locomotive as a railroad's first piece of motive power, but to move the heavy loads of dolomite and lead required such muscle. As more funds accumulated, more motive power came to the railroad. A trio of American-type locomotives were purchased in 1882, respectively numbered #2, #3, and #4. The aquisition of these new locomotives brought much needed supplies, passengers and revenue to the heart of Wisconsin as well as adding to the states' growth. Between 1870 and 1900 the population of Wisconsin doubled 1,054,670 to 2,069,042 inhabitants. It was also the greatest period of railroad building.

The line started in Merrick's namesake town of Merrick. From there in early 1881, track was laid north to a once thriving fishing town of Whiskey River. Track parallels this part of the river for some time until it arrives at Redruth. Redruth was the once all important stop on the railroad as it interchanged with the Chicago, Milwaukee and Saint Paul to points all over Wisconsin and Illinois. This first strecth was the entire line in 1884 until Merrick and his investors realized the potential of reaching the north woods. Many more communities were established along his line as it grew into the north but few other rail connections were made. In 1896, Merrick's line was near completion when the only other rail connection on the line was built with the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad in Three Corners, WI. This substantially boosted revenue on the line and helped Merrick achieve his goal of owning a sucessful railroad. By this time the bigger railroads have aquired all the bigger towns and cities, and Merrick took notice of this. So on August 27, 1897 the railroad laid track through and helped established its last town, Tubbs.

Basically every town that the line goes through will be a small switching layout within itself, as my layout is modular/sectional since my job requires me to move a lot. All in all I should have seven modules for the seven towns. Currently I have only one module built, the town of Dreisdale. I get a lot of my ideas from Carl Arendt's fabulous website: http://www.carendt.com/ . Maybe sometime in the future pics will be up there. I do also have a WRRy Facebook fan page with some pics up, you'd have to look for it because the links somehow don't work when I post them.

Well guys, I'm back, and I have just started on a new model kit! I'm pretty sure that most Luft '46 fans know of the A9/A10 rocket, and for those who don't know, I'll tell you its grisly story.
By late 1944, the Third Reich was beginning to crumble. All hope of winning the war was beginning to fade. However, Hitler had one asset left: his clever scientists--particularly, Dr. Wernher von Braun. von Braun had already become one of Hitler's favorites after developing the V2 rocket, capable of hitting London. Hitler was desperate for some sort of vehicle that could hit America in one shot with an atomic bomb, and soon various scientsts were competing for the contract. von Braun's concept, if built, could have achieved his dream of sending a man into space. Unfortunately, its ultimate goal was to be used as a war machine that would bring untold death and destruction.

Two variants of the rocket were planned: a manned version, and an unmanned version. The space coffin that would have been the manned rocket was, well, a kamikaze missile. The unmanned version would have had to be guided by a rather elaborate string of transponders, with the final one being placed by a spy at the top floor of a highrise building in lower manhattan.

So far, I have completed the booster stage of the rocket. I will add more photos and updates as the build progresses.

Build Review: R2-D2 (Shunichi Makino)

So, it being a while since I've actually posted any of my builds, and finally locating my camera, here's a few of the models I've built over the past year or so.

Next up, R2-D2 by Sunichi Makino.

Difficulty: Medium-Advanced
Assembly: Medium-Advanced
Directions (out of 5): 4.5
Overall Rating(out of 5): 4.5

First impressions:

Another of Makino's models, R2 is laid out in typical Makino fashion: strong, crisp graphics and use of colors, good parts arrangement and *tiny* parts.

Don't let the 4 page size of this model (3 parts and one instruction) fool you; R2-D2 is a complex build involving careful folding and assembly of very small parts.

There's alot of tricky parts of this build; most notable being the half dome of R2's head. Makino takes what I call the "layered eggshell" approach to circles- bands of increasingly small size that form the eventual curves needed.

One's choice of build strategy here will have a big effect on the finished product- start from the inside out or the outside in? Personally, I start from the inside (top, or smaller pieces) and work my way down.

I built the dome using standard weight paper, to allow for the flexibility required in shaping. All other parts were done in my standard heavy weight cardstock.

Assembly of R2 is complex, but follows a logical layout. The best strategy here is to complete each sub assembly set before moving on to the next area. The legs/feet can be interesting, as you have folds going in several directions on very small surface areas. Scoring and prefolding is a must, as is dry fit placement before final gluing.

The instructions for R2 are a little more detailed than usual on Makino's models- but due to the complexity of the model (R2's head, legs and feet are all posable) it's needed.

Speaking of the legs and feet, Makino provides an optional build part of the middle leg... you can either leave it out altogether, make it a temporary part or remove it altogether. A nice touch that adds to the model's versatility.

The amount of detail Makino adds here is nothing short of superb- the finished product comes out looking great. R2 sat on my desk at work for more than a year and never failed to elict "that's paper?!?!" from customers and co-workers. No one could resist picking him up and playing with him.

The model is a sturdy build, which seems to be another Makino hallmark; my R2 has held up suprisingly well.

Build Review: USS Enterprise A (Shunichi Makino)

So, it being a while since I've actually posted any of my builds, and finally locating my camera, here's a few of the models I've built over the past year or so.

First up, the USS Enterprise-A, by the excellent Sunichi Makino.

Difficulty: Medium
Assembly: Medium
Directions (out of 5): 3
Overall Rating(out of 5): 4

First impressions:

I ran across this kit while hunting around for the VF-1 (also on Makino's site). Always being a fan of starships, I decided to give this one a go.

I was immediately impressed by the clear and vibrant textures of Makino's work, and the obvious thought that had gone into the layout of the design. All his models show this same commitment to detail, yet remain... simplistic in their lines.

I mean simplistic not in the usual sense of ill formed or of basic design, but rather in the Zen aesthetic- there's a cleaness of line and form to Makino's designs and it carries through in the finished models.

The parts are well laid out and assembly is greatly eased by the thoughtful arrangement of the pieces. Instructions on Makino's models are generally on the sparse side, leaving the builder to follow their own whim on build order. However, "sticky" points on the builds are generally shown with exploded diagrams or actual photos of the parts. In short, if you're experienced with paper model technique and assembly order, you won't be referring to the diagrams much; but a beginner builder could get frustrated.

The size of the model is decent, although I would have preferred a larger version for both aesthetics and to ease assembly of some of the smaller parts. The detail on this model would readily lend itself to enlargement, however; without much loss of integrity or pixelation of graphics.

The one real complaint I have with this model is the rather simplistic treatment the engine nacelles are given; much more a box/rectangular shape than the lithe and graceful lines the rest of the craft sports. Makino has undoubtedly succeeded in capturing the grace of the Enterprise-A in the saucer and secondary hull area- even the nacelle supports are spot on.

It's because of that success that the nacelles themselves stand out so strongly; they just don't "fit" with the rest of the model. A redesign along more rounded lines is certainly in order here... or perhaps a layered approach to get the proper look.

In all, it was an enjoyable model to build, and it looks great on display. I found the included display stand detracted from the ship itself, so I custom rigged one from wire (not shown). The model has also proven to be quite sturdy, surviving several cat attacks and the attentions of my 6 year old son.

Well,what can i say???
I',m Roland,49 Years old(?) until January. With the Launch of Apollo 8 i've got my Main-Hobby-Spaceflight.For a long Time i was building those Plastickits of Rockets and Spacecraft. In 2003 i was thinkin' that Paper will be the best Material for me.You can construct a Model and you have it allways on your Harddrive-just in case.So i did the SA-1 up to SA10-Saturnrockets in 1:144-and was very pleased about the Result. The last major Work was a Model of the Ares 1X in 1:72 with Interior. Here is a Link to a Ares Modell with LUT.I've made it in 2006 i think.
http://jleslie48.com/cevton02/cev-lut/
All my Models have a Scratchbuild-Style.So im not working with PDF.Only in JPG and BMP.
So thats enough for Today i think.
Oh-by that way-does someone now what happened to the Apollo-Set Delta7 had planned?

Greetings Roland

When I was just a little child something got my interest and I started to develop a passion for it. That thing was: DUNE, the fantastic universe created by Frank Herbert.

I seen on this forum a while ago, that someone asked about a spice harvester papercraft. Now that person will soon get what he asked for(I hope). :D

I got the idea to start to build on one a few days ago. I wanted the basic shape of a harvester from the 1984 movie, but with tracks and a larger head for harvesting. Here is the result:

Attachment 92649

The model will be ~20cm long(suggestions for the size are welcomed). The markings you see on it are fremen words.
Now, the only thing I need to do is unfolding.

Hope you like it. :D

...and don't forget: He who controls the spice, controls the universe!

I of course would give you credit for designing it, and NO, I would not Upload the recoloured model sheets. (if some one wants one, they will have to do the work of recolouring it.),
Like I said, this is ONLY for my own collection.

If you would like, I can email you a copy of what I have done.

Thank you and kind regards.
As you can see (unfortunately not that clearly I have left Martin Saengers registry mark on the base of the stand and I also put on the stand that he created it and I recouloured it.
I tried to get a close-up shot of the cockpit canopy (unfortunately it is not that clear) where I have put the name of my mother as the pilot.
The reason for this is because it is an "In Memory Of" model. My mother passed away two years ago and she loved both Buck Rogers and BSG. So I desided to build this model for her and put her name as the pilot. I also put some "CYLON SYMBLES" to denote her kills.
I also placed my scratch built MK-3 next to it for comparison, and they are both about the same scale.

I hope all of you enjoy it.

Hello!

Last week I went to a (one of the very few) hobby shop here in my city (Bogotá) to buy a paper model which I was dying to built for years.

It has been like 15 years since I last built a paper airplane, and I was eager to re-start the hobby.

While talking to the owner, he offered me a bunch of models. It is a collection of 12 still sealed Modelart airplane paper kits. He bought the models for personal interest some 5 years ago, but never built them.

The kits are presented in a magazine format. They are at 1:32 scale.

Following are photos of one of those magazines (pictures are not mine, I just found them and I include them here for explanation).

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/DSCN4463.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/DSCN4463.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/DSCN4464.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/DSCN4465.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/DSCN4466.jpg

He said that he would sell each kit at 20,000 Colombian pesos (which is about U$11 each), but he also said that he would only sell the complete collection edited by this company, which are 12 models (including a Junkers, a Messerschmitt, a Flying Pancake, an F15, and some others I don't remember at the moment). That would amount to about U$130 for the twelve models.

Actually I'm only interested in one or two of the models. However after a little research I found that Modelart produces very good models. And after reading some posts, and viewing several builts of Modelart planes I started to feel the temptation. ;)

As I told above, I have not been in the modeling hobby for several years, and I know almost nothing about prices and this kind of deals.

So my questions for you are:

Do you think that the quoted price is fair?
Is that a good buy?

I don't have the U$130 to buy the whole 12 sealed models, and I probably won't since I'm only interested in the F15 and the Messerschmitt. However I though of buying it, keep those two models for me, and sell the other 10 models. But problem is that here in Colombia modelism in general is a rare thing still, and serious paper modelism in particular is a truly unknown activity; so I would have almost no buyers for those models.

Another thing that really has prevented me from any further thoughts is that after a little research in the internet for references, and according to some forums, looks like the editorial company ("Colecciona Editores" from Spain) that edited this collection is not-so-legal, and this can be a case of a pirate company.

In the end I bought a 1:33 Douglas DC-3... of which I will surely talk to you later because it may deserve another thread of its own.

Thanks a lot in advance for your opinions on this :)

I have discovered that there are seveal 1/1 scale weapon paper models like the RPG-7, SVD, M4 carbine, etc. floating around (molys on the Russian paper model websites) and wondered who else may be into collecting paper models of this size? I would love to see someone do a #D PDO of the SMAW, AT4, M2 Carl Gustav, M47 Dragon, and maybe even a TOW! It does seem possible from what i have seen accomplise by other model desigines and builders. Please give me any feedback info you would like to talk about.

I collect the real inter thing but that hobby has went through the roof now and I can no longer afford it. I miss the days on eBay (untill they stop allowing the sale) when you could find inert item like this and make some great buys. So now paper model (or fiberglass) seems the best logical step in building a collection. Thank goodness I still have my Frech LARC F1 Stirm and Chinese LPO-50! HEHE!

Hello.

I'm rather new to this forum, though I've been sporadically building paper models since I was a child.

One problem I faced several years ago, when I built a paper plane was how to protect it from dust (which was a chronic illness in my neighborhood).

The model was built from an original kit, and therefore the printing was of excellent quality and the heavy paper was also very good. But dust soon started to accumulate on it and after some time it didn't look as good as when finished.

At that time I was young and moneyless, and I had no way of making a glass-covered cabinet to display.

Now you can guess what's my question....

Is there a way of protecting paper models from dust when they're outside a cabinet?
Maybe an anti-stastic spray coating?

At that time I used to cover them with clear plastic bags (like clear pajamas), but although useful it was just tasteless and the models loose any appeal because it's great to have them displayed "naked". And I think that given the inherente delicacy of paper, dusting off them would eventually be dangerous for the model.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and tips.

Subject: Railway Museum open house

Good afternoon. I can't recall who exactly I sent this notice out to, so
if you've already received it once before, I'm sorry.

The Niagara Railway Museum will be holding a special open house on
September 11/12, 2010 9am-4pm at our shop at 21 Warren St. Fort Erie
Ontario. We are housed in the former CNR diesel shop. I have attached a
flyer about the event and ask if you are not able to attend that you could
send this to a friend, or post it on a bulletin board to help spread the
word. This is our second last fundraiser of the year. There are some
other displays I am working on, so this is going to be a great open house.
It goes rain or shine.

Folks, I'm starting out with Pepakura and following along the lines of some other posts I've seen, I'm heading out into the unknown by starting with modelling some of the smaller Eve ships.

My problem comes when I try to unfold the model in Pep. First off the mesh is too complex to just let Pep do it itself, so I then painstakingly (or lovingly) cut the model myself. When I unfold it now Pep almost ignore some of the cuts I've made in preference for it's own choices.

Does this mean I didn't get the cut right? Or have I got some setting incorrect in Pep so it doesn't always follow my cuts?

Thanks
My name is Martin, I'm 39 (sometimes feeling much older, especially on monday mornings...), I work as a naval architect and spend my evenings (not only) on card model planes. You always want what you don't have, don't you...
So I hope to find a lot of information and a huge amount of inspiration!

I've discovered a rather interesting conundrum in Pepakura.

I downloaded a bunch of Battletech models a few days ago, and I decided to build the Owens 'Mech. Well the original Pepakura model was not arranged very efficiently on paper, so I took it into Pepakura Designer to rearrange the parts so it would use less paper. The problem is, when it was all said and done, one of the toes is missing. I can't find it anywhere! The model itself has all eight toes, but I can only find seven on the 2D development page. I tried zooming out as far as I could to see if it was shunted over to the side, and I saw nothing. I also joined and unjoined several panels on the toe in question to get some movement on the screen so I could locate it, but nothing happened.

Is there something wrong with this picture?

Hello!

I'm from Colombia (Southamerica).

I'm male, I'm 33, and I've loved handicarfts and models since I was a child. I recently found this forum, and I believe I will spend some good time here because I have seen interesting things.

I built some plastic airplane models several years ago, but they're either lost or trashed. And my abilities with plastic and airbrushing are not the best. I have since built several paper models, which I prefer.

have a great day!

This was a quickie. Built in one day and with a busload of fun while doing it. I used Yogi's Mars Pathfinder Sojourner which I downscaled 50% to 1/24.
Did some tweaking to Yogi's basic design which was already very good but needed some more detail in what I wanted to make of it.

The solar panels were replaced with a piece of metallic blue paper which I carefully carved to get some detail back of the individual solar cells.
The body was covered in gold chocolate wrapper.
The rear instrument box also was covered thus, leaving the JPL logo free.

I've been interested in maybe starting a layout centered around clay 'mining' and came across what is called a 'One Man Excavator' made by the Bay City which was used in clay pits. Thought it might be interesting to bash one up (if I were to go that route, the clay biz), but I was wondering if anyone has heard of the excavator in question, maybe has better pics or plans of one? Yes, I know, a lost cause I'm sure but it doesn't hurt to ask right?
I've included the link where I came across the excavator.
I've made a committment lately to jump into model railroading and I've always been drawn to On30 (I used to buy the Narrow Gauge Gazette and dream). Now that I finally dusted off my little Porter, I'm all into seeing what kind of trouble I can get into. Just wanted to pop in and say hi.

I have never run across this site before and don't recall ever seeing it referenced here. The models are all hand made without the use of computer software, but the builder has been making paper models for many years and the number of models he's produced, and the range of subjects is impressive to say the least.

Many of the models feature interiors and are intended to be built with clear windows/canopies. The quality of the models is (in my opinion) relatively low, but there are many I would build, and all would be great starting points for someone wanting to refine an existing model or do a repaint into a specific color scheme.

Background/historical info and pictures of real samples of the subjects are provided on many of the models, along with pictures of completed builds.

I think it's well worth spending some time looking around this site.

(I apologize in advance to anyone who is on the same various forums I am one, as this is a copy posting on all)

I've had this figurine in the works for as long as the male protagonist; I in fact had a prior prototype (I won't show it here), designed and tested at the same time as PPM 1.0 (the current male version). The female figure is a bit tricky, more complex and smaller than the male, with odd curves and generally a rounder shape. I did not want to do injustice to the female form in general, and yet wanted to somewhat convey in 3d the key shape, rather than relying on texturing and blocky modeling.

There is a fundamental alteration to the hip, which will likely appear in PPM 2.0 (not even in the works), which allows for better radial posing of the legs. The torso on the female is also separated into two pieces (it is one piece on the male), firstly to provide positioning for the breasts, as well as generally more of a fluid shape when posing. it also allows a small bit of lamination for the shoulder blades, which will likely be more often exposed.

The design fundamentals of the male figure also provided a much simpler format; torsos are 'shirts' and textured to match. The female figurine I intend to allow much more flexibility at the price of complexity, where the clothing is most likely to be laminated rather than textured. This allows for more realistic portrayal of things like décolleté, and gives more justice to the figurine. The prototype is shown with a prototype bikini style-set, with the panty and the bra both laminated.

Enjoy the pictures; I've set up the build diary as links, and chosen a few for display here. The metal figurine (not yet fully painted) is shown for scale and detail comparison. It is a 35mm figure from one of the Reaper lines. The penny is a Canadian $0.01 coin, and is 2 cm (about 4/5th of an inch) in diameter.

Hi everybody. I just finished my build of Yuri Gagarin's re-entry which went a bit hazardous, as we probably all know now.
For those of you who don't: Upon using his retrofire rockets the Vostok should have split in two parts: the Sharik, which is the capsule, and the instrument module that was supposed to remain in orbit and eventually burn up.
The Sharik was connected to the instrument module with a big plug outside the spacecraft that was meant to break loose when the craft would split. It didn't.
Now Gagarin was thundering down the denser layers of the atmosphere, dragging the dead weight of the instrument module along, which kept on banging into the capsule that was wildly gyrating due to the extra ballast. The sharik couldn't straighten itself for a good clean re-entry and without the well-protected right side down, the craft was about to burn up.
Gagrin could do nothing but wait and hope.

As I kinda like diorama's I thought it might be a nice one to try and render in paper.
I used Leo Cherkashyn's Vostok model and downscaled it to 66% for a 1/72nd scale print. The build was pretty straightforward with a perfect fit. Leo has designed his model very well! After a coat of silver acrylic spraypaint at the sharik (as the Russians call the capsule) I tackled the diamond shaped engine compartment. Part one of the pics:

I got to work right away on this model as I've been salivating over doing a scratch build Heavy Tank ever since I got my Armor Cast BaneBlade/Shadow Sword combo back in 96.

This will be more of a visual journal of the build rather than a detailed step by step.. SilverOxide has that market cornered...and I am not sure anything I could do would be anywhere close to that level of granularity.
I am hoping that you, like me, wished there were nice photos of assembled versions of all of Elli's wonder templates. Well I'll contribute as many as I can.

Build Time - 8 Hours * in progress* - assembling Turret & Treads

Tools
- 110lb Cardstock
- cereal box card for heavy laminates
- x-acto knife and lots of blades
- metal ruler
- 1/16" hole punch for rivets
- micro screw driver and pin vice drill bits for coiling paper tube barrels
- Aieleen's Tacky Glue (white pva)

First things first, as with most of the Elli Patoroch templates I've had to shuffle some parts around to fit properly for us USLetter paper printers. And this was a BIG model. So big I had to separate the back flap from the main body and put it on a separate page.

Luckily that was the only piece on the entire model that I had to do this with.

The next part (part #12) built quite easily though I found it odd that one piece had to be glued onto the rest of it. I don't know why he didn't at least attach one end of that part. (part 12a ) is the part in question.

And the base of it was laminated to cereal card. This is something I did quite a bit on this model. Nearly every flat surface on the base and track assembly was laminated. As it is so large I wanted to reinforce the structure as much as possible. I don't want to have spent 10 hours on it only to discover a major warp or find that its structural integrity was compromised.

I don't show it but when I mounted (part #12) onto the main body, I made a card spacer to fill the volume in its center. Again to prevent warp.

Various bits of detailing to the mostly completed Hull. I have some smaller rivets to place as well...

The Tracks components in progress... almost finished with the lamination and detail bits.

Gluing each track, one at a time to the Hull. Detailed bits finished except for a few minor extras.

I am dry fitting the upper hull(?) extension parts that extend over the track parts. I had to add some glue flaps for the separate under pieces needed to complete each side. Be sure to do this if you are building from cardstock, it has made all the difference.

Here is what I've started doing for all tracks that have multiple piece laminates. It saves paper space and reduces the amount of cutting and trimming tremendously.

I've applied the treads but there was a gap on both sides. I placed the gape in a spot underneath the upper hull covering and n a corner so it will not be noticeable.

Tomorrow I'll cut and glue the laminates and mount the upper hull and turret.

I have been building paper models for gaming for a few years. It has mostly been World Works Games stuff kit bashed to make it sturdier. Recently I stumbled on this site and amazed at what others have been doing with paper kits. I don' have much time to game but I still would like to build some stuff.

You can see some of the WWG buildings I have worked on at my blog site. Though it has been left untouched for a while.

A few weeks ago I purchased a Proto 2000 F7 A & B combo with DCC from a not-so-local hobby shop. I finally tried to run it the other day and while the A unit works fine, the B unit doesn't. F6 will start up the sound, after which the throttle will rev up/rev down the engine sound, but the unit won't move. It's as if it is in "disconnect" stage. F9, which should control the 3 stages (disconnect, standby and shut down) honks the horn; does nothing else. I have to take the unit off the track to turn it off. F2 also honks the horn, as it should. F1 rings the bell; the other "Fs" appear to do their thing. I tried a hard reset (several times) and, while the voice said "reset," it didn't correct the problem. Also tried the unit on straight DC and while it produces engine sound, it won't move. (My ancient DC power pack has "issues" and I couldn't fully check the other functions the unit is supposed to be able to do on straight DC.)
Anyone have suggestions as to what is wrong? Bad decoder? Incorrect wiring? I'm a real novice at this sort of thing and wouldn't recognize the latter.

Here is my first card model design. Based on the Flaptter from a Japanese anime Laputa, Castle in the Sky. The final color beta looking good, and I can finally say it is done! ....... oh... wait, I still got the instructions to do.

I renaming my model FOLLETTO cause I just like the sound of it better then Flaptter. It looks like Italian to me anyway. Color scheme cross from Macchi Racer, but mostly from Titiana's Vanship in The Last Exile anime. The model was suppose to be done well over a month ago. But, it went through a a lot of design changes. Plus, I also got distracted with the 2nd and 3rd card model I was design in 3D, which I am putting aside to get the Folletto done first. I added a few of my own touch, but kept the original design parts as option in the kit. The model is 1/6 scale( loosely). Wingspan is over 40 inches wide. Parts cover 30 pages of A3 paper. Not including front cover and instructions, which I am working on the at the moment.

I'm going to offer this kit as printed kit only, not e-card download. Just because I really want to see my design professionally published. Maybe a ego thing, I guess. I'll print just enough or whatever the minimum will be, keep a few printed for myself and hope to sell all the rest to cover the printing cost. So, it will be a very limited run. Kind of like a garage kit but made in paper not resin. Don't know how much per kit yet. I still have to finish the instructions, sent template files to Legalzoom. Then, I can go talk to some printers. When everything done, hopefully soon. It will be available at my website. Thank you very much for looking.

Hi all,

I can proudly announce that a new papermodel will be in the upcoming next three german weekly "Perry Rhodan" novels, once again a teamwork from me and the gifted german designer Martin Sänger, who constructed it. The numbers of the novels are 2557 (in the shops at August 20th, 2010), 2558 and 2559.

It is a classic Battle-Robot called "Gladiator R1" in 1:12 scale, and this is how he will look when built:

The model has 191 parts. It is not an easy build, but worth the effort, I`ld say. :)

Hey guys, I've been looking to make a Call of Duty model for quite awhile and while researching, I came across something which poses an interesting question: Can you rip a 3D model from a 3D screenshot like this:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ca...lt%3Btitle%3B8

If so, what would be the best program that would allow me to do that?

Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
